First outing

I know this is not the happiest, cutest picture....I will post more soon. She did not want to cooperate for a picture today. I love this dress though.

Monday I attempted to go out on my own for the first time. Caroline's face in this picture explains our experience. She actually did fine...it was just me that was so nervous and uneasy. I had to go pick up a prescription at Target and I thought it would be a short, easy trip. First of all packing up a baby is like packing up your entire house. They have so much gear. Then when we got there I got out her carrier and got a basket. After looking at the basket and the carrier for a while I realized I had no idea how to clip it in safely. Finally I just sat the carrier in the basket. However, I then became frustrated because I could not see her well. At that point I decided just to carry her in the carrier since I was only picking up a prescription. I felt like every mom in the place was staring at me. I am sure I was just being self conscious, but it was not a good feeling for an inexperienced mom. I ended up getting the prescription and rushing straight out of Target. Overall the trip was not too bad, I just need more practice to become more comfortable. Things are so much easier with Justin around.

Caroline was three weeks old yesterday. Time is flying. She really seems to be growing and filling out. She is holding up her head so well and is moving so much. We are going to have to take her sleep positioner out of her bed. She ends up on top of it or with it between her legs. I love being a mom...it is the greatest thing in the world.

Also I have a question for all you experienced moms out there....does your baby ever gag? Caroline does occasionally after she eats and spits up. It is absolutely terrifying and scares me to tears every time. I asked her doctor and he did not seem concerned. I think I might have blogged about this earlier...but I need some feedback.

I still don't consider myself "experienced," but now that I've had 2 babies with pretty severe reflux, I do have some experience in that area. Both of my boys have been gaggers. Our doctor has never been concerned about it either. I think it just happens, so don't worry too much. You have a beautiful little one! I love looking at her pictures.

luckily kynli has never done that when she spits up but she does do it occasionally when she eats too fast. she doesnt gag so much as just choke a little bit on all of the milk and then coughs violently to get it all cleared out. it is scary and i can definitely understand why her gagging brings you to tears! hopefully she will grow out of it soon!! good luck!

Allison I'm not a Mom, Though taking care of Caroline's Aunty Michalea I think she gaged when she ate her food to fast at times my Mother Jenny was never really there for Michalea and I so I had to take care of Caroline's Aunt Michalea I had no choice at that point to not take care of a baby. Dalin like I said before I'm not a mother I hope I will be a Mother one day,

Lots of love,
Aunt Nicole

Claire gags sometimes. Our doctor said that it is just b/c her esophagus is immature and it will stop over time. I really got scared when she would do it while in her crib...putting her on her side really seemed to help. I hope this helps a little...fyi - going out gets MUCH easier. And you will discover really quickly what to take and what you can live with out for 30 minutes.
She is getting so big...keep those pictures coming!!! You are doing a great job!

Blake gagged on pacifiers and shooting overflowing breast milk. Try to chill, it will pass. You are doing great and everything is awkward for a while. It takes quite some time before you are a pro and you don't have to plan out every little detail or even think about stuff as much. I can't wait to see yall again. I guess at the draft if not sooner. Miss you!

Hey Allison,

I saw your blog from Paige's page. My son gagged and choked all the stinkin' time when he was brand new. Like, all the time. And every time I'd freak out and my heart would start pounding and my arms would shake a little. Haha. But, Caleb had severe reflux so I guess it was just that. The gagging only lasted for the first month or two. But judging from the other comments it must be pretty common.

As far as the Target shopping cart... I cracked up because that was the same experience I had! I just set the carrier in the basket until I paid attention to how the other mom's did it. Rookie mistake:)

Caroline is a cutie!! Caroline is a name I had picked out if I ever have a baby girl:) So cute.

Just so you know...there is no "right" way to put the carrier in the basekt. At least not Target baskets. I have a Britax and I think they are pretty standard, but it was always a little awkward up there. Anyway, wait till she is bigger and put her in the Bjorn! That works best for us.
