The Wise County Reunion

I'm not a Wise County native, so I'm not sure I can fully explain the event that is the Wise County Reunion. I do know, however, that it is a big deal around the area. Every year, the last week of July people of the county come out to the reunion ground to enjoy the carnival, games, food, all sorts of events. Some people own camps on the grounds and spend the week in their camp. Since my mom is from Decatur, growing up she took us all to the reunion ever year. It was a blast with all my cousins; we ran around, rode rides, ate sno cones, stayed out way late, and got as filthy as possible. As I got older it was still fun, but for different reasons. If I begged my older cousins enough they would take me with them to hang out with their friends. We would hop from camp to camp and I would meet new people and cute boys, enjoy the party scene, stay out late, and get to see what small town life was like.

Now that I am a mother, I went out there to take my daughter to the carnival and visit some of my mom's family and old friends at their camps.

We decided to buy Caroline a bracelet which means she could ride whatever she wanted unlimited amounts of times. We began with the carousel and soon were questioning our decision to buy the bracelet. My used to be daring child has gotten a little more reserved and cautious, and she wasn't really into getting on a horse. Instead she drug whoever was riding with her directly to the bench.
It didn't take her too long to warm up to other rides though, that could be due to the fact that my dad just stuck her right in...she didn't object though. Going down the big slide with mama!
So serious on all the rides!
I figured we didn't have to worry about the meeting cute boys thing for a while....
Hmmmmm, is this is a peek into our future? Driving off on the back of a boy's motorcycle. Let's hope not. But really, is this picture not the cutest?
And no, I haven't a clue who this kid is, but he is a cutie. Caroline picked her motorcycle well.
Every other seat on the ride was empty, but this little boy decided to pile in next to Caroline. She didn't seem to mind...sigh ;)
Now this is a picture of my aunt and uncle's cabin all decorated up, yes they also decorate their cabins and have a decoration contest. I should have taken a picture of the entire cabin so you can really see what they are like. Some are nice, but most barely have running water and definitely no AC. Usually they are filled with beds, a half running refrigerator, lots of coolers, and big tables as most people cook out there and enjoy large meals with family and friends. Drinking some juice in front of the camp.

The camp we used to stay in is now occupied by a Tech grad that I actually know. Their theme this year was Texas Tech! Very fitting since it used to be our place!
I hope I gave you some insight into what this week is like, but I think to fully understand you just have to experience it. It is a one of kind type event!
