17 Months Old

My sweet toddler is 17 months old. Wasn't her birthday just a few weeks ago....it sure seems that way. Time is flying.

Anyway, onto my daughter and the happenings of our 17 month old. My daughter is a wild child. Her energy, activity level, and enthusiasm are contagious. She is very advanced with her motor skills, she runs, jumps off the ground repeatedly, slides, turns spins, climbs stairs, can climb into chairs, and rock her self in a rocking chair. She can hold and pick up small objects and scribble with a crayon. I am beginning to believe the phrase, "early walker, late talker." Her vocabulary is slowly coming along, I am working with her and trying to expand her daily vocabulary but really I feel she could care less. She would rather run and play than sit and read a book, play with a toy, or watch a video. I try to label objects and colors and she just looks at me like "so what's the big deal?" She does say quite a few words, and I think being a teacher I am pushing the issue. I am not worried, she is developing fine, she would just rather run and play than sit and learn. I also know she knows so much, but is just not spitting it back out. She responds to commands and understands much of what we say.

For my scrap booking reasons, here are a list of her current words:
bow, baby, Mama, Dada, down, bite, milk, bye bye, shoe, dog, Boomer, banana, Nana, Papa, book, night night, bath, ball, thank you (inconsistent), go, no (a new favorite), outside, poo poo, uh oh, wow, swing, duck, nose, and eyes.

A few cute things this month...

She gives kisses indiscriminately. She does the perfect pucker and sound, and gives smackers right on the lips upon request. She kisses her babies and her puppy as well. See?
(A Christmas gift, not yet wrapped.)

She loves the Christmas tree and ornaments, this is a bit of a battle, but overall she does ok.

She cheers along with people on TV.

She is an entertainer, she loves to make us laugh by dancing, spinning, running, jumping or anything else.

She still loves her bath and will splash and swim on her belly the entire time.

She knows what no means and will say it when she is doing something she shouldn't.
She loves to brush her teeth and knows where the toothbrushes are kept. If we don't watch her close, she will pull them out and put them right in her mouth.

Can't wait to see the excitement and magic of Christmas through Caroline's eyes. We love you, sweet girl.

How exciting! I definitely agree with the "early walker, late talker" (or vice versa)adage. Caleb was a late walker, but was and is still quite the talker! I think they excel in one area and then eventually things kind of even out. Caroline sure is a cutie!!

It's so cute how she loves on Boomer! Hopefully Eli will be just as sweet with our two labs.

I also love how she cheers along with people on TV... too funny!

She is so pretty! I agree with you on the early walker, late talker. My oldest was a really late walker, but talked early....still in speech therapy because of his articulation, but you know ;), and my youngest was a much earlier walker, and is very active, but doesn't even have as many words as Caroline (and he's 21 months!).

she's brilliant! don"t even worry about her speech it is probably right on target. Blake is just really wordy and not very athletic yet, Caroline is the other way around.
